ViaTerra Tail Bag is one unique, best-in-class product which I have used till now. It is surely a must-have for long rides where you can keep almost anything for those 3-4 days.
Best part is it is bike independent and later I even tried it on a FZ, Pulsar and on a Bullet thus make its widespread usage. Yes, this is only made for solo tourers.
One can carry several things from clothes to tool kits to floaters to important documents to even DSLRs.
You don’t need to worry how to strap it or adjust with saddle bags or about straight or up-swept exhaust either. Just strap it on and enjoy the ride.

Initial Impression: The bag feels solid like all other ViaTerra products. Fit and finish is perfect and build quality is awesome. The best and highlighted feature of this tank bag is quick mounting and unmounting. It uses bungee cords (included along with the bag and are of two different lengths) to strap itself on and off on any motorcycle. The bungee cords included are the best ones I have used till date, attention to detail on the bungee is so much that the metal bungee hook comes with rubber caps to prevent the bikes body parts from getting scratched (deep and smart thinking viaterra). It comes in a hard yet flexible turtle shape and cam be expanded in more spare is needed.

The bag was tested on KTM Duke 200 & 390. It fits so tad perfectly that it actually looks like an integrated part of the bike itself. Comes with raincover too. The only complain I have(Can call it a suggestion actually ) towards viaterra is that the rain cover should come in a brighter high-viz color that will be of great assitance to the riders specially during rains, nights and foggy conditions.

Long Ride use and Review: The bag was used for a 950kms long ride Goa-Mahabaleshwar and back. The bag was put to use through its paces. As the ride was during the monsoon. Had to carry extra clothing to keep dry. The bag (not expanded) engulfed all the things without a sweat. And to fill up the available space the bag was stuff with more clothes and things (just to test it). The bag had to go through heavy rains, insane cornering at chorla ghat (to see if it stays stable), high speed runs (Belagaum-Kolhapur) to see it it flutters and gives up on high speeds and lastly on bad roads to see if we can finally upset the perfectly scored tail bag so far. The bag came out with flying colors. The only trouble one needs to take is figure out the firmest possible way to latch the bag on the tail and once you have done that it stays rock solid. Also the rain cover works wonderful and not a drop water seeped in.

So I sum it up giving this tailbag 5 stars. And i recommend this tailbag to riders looking out for a baggage solution that’s versatile, smart and easy. Perfect for short weekend trips also can be used as baggage carriage extendor for the longest of rides (Using viaterra velox/rapide/leh saddlebags along with raptor tailbag). Any queries feel free to comment or PM.

After lot and lot of analysis and findings of my exact requirements I finally decided to buy this Bag.

Ordered it online and the viaterra staff was very professional and courteous they called me to understand my exact requirements asked the images of my Harley Davidson discussed with their design team and then recommended.

The bag is neat, good quality and stable on my Harley. Though to give extra support I used a separate bunji rope but actually it is not required as bag already come with a plug and play mechanism.

It would have been good if it had a net on top rest it is perfect in this price.

The Raptor V2 from Viaterra was my first bike tailbag and let me say that it is good. Certainly worth the money. I used it for a 5000 km round trip on my Kawasaki Z900. Based on the experience of my trip, I rate the bag as so :

    1. Design — 5/5 — Very well designed. Looks and feels rich. No shabby stitching and all. Lots of space and cubby holes to keep stuff one needs for a bike tour.
    2. Quality — 5/5 — Very sturdy. I drove in extreme weather (49 deg C and then heavy rains) and didn’t feel it get saggy or lose shape and all. Zips work well with gloves on. This is one durable product.
    3. Ride — 4/5 — Before dispatch, the customer care team checked with me as to which bike I would be mounting the bag on. And when I fitted it on the back seat, it went on snugly. The straps are sturdy. However, if I hit a bump at lets say 80 or 90 kmph, the bag tended to lift and move. I then needed to stop, get down and readjust the bag. Can something be done for this?? Also the straps while passing over the body have worn out the paint. So this is quite undesirable. V team, please coat the straps with some softer material n all.
    4. Versatility — 5/5 — It is amazing how I can just unstrap it from the bike and carry it in like a laptop bag. I even took it to office several times and no one realized it was my tailbag from the ride before. And the even better thing is that th straps have recesses in the bag to secure them away. So no worrying about separate storing or losing the straps.

All in all, great item. Only take care of the straps loosening on bumps and scratching the paint off and you have a perfect tailbag.

    – Looks good when mounted on my Triumph Street Triple
    – Very easy to mount it. Though I suggest use your gloves as you have to stretch the hooks and mount it on the rear foot pegs.
    – Once you have reached destination, it has space to snug in all the hooks under the bag. That makes it looks clean and cool. Also has a strap you can carry it like your laptop bag. Loved it.
    – It has great visibility at night. The reflectors looks awesome kiddos to that design. 2 small on the top and strips on the side. Looks cool and very functional.
    – coming to the biggest role. Capacity – it can take my full sized agv k1 helmet, 1 litre bottle flask, 2 pair gloves, and full rain suit without extending. I can store my sun glass box and other charges on the side pouch. On other side it has rain cover for the raptor. If not helmet, you can keep your padded jacket inside without extending it. Once you extend, its massive. You can load, 3 jeans, 5 t-shirts, 2 big towels, 5 set socks, 1 litre bottle, 1 thermal wear and a rain suit, some biscuit packs, cleaning cloths and a DSLR camera. But you must pack all wisely. Like rolling your cloths can make more space.
    – it also act as a backrest for your lower back when you sit relaxed and cruise on a motorway. It works better for 2 step seats.
    – it is pretty stable at high speeds. Even during hard acceleration it doesn’t move around. When I take corners it doesn’t interrupt me. Having said that, store the items in a balanced way so that bag weights equal on sides. Also use the hook inside the bag to keep the items in place. If it’s loose, when you corner, stuff gonna move around. Trust me you don’t want that when you are taking a corner. There are few downside as well. Check below.

    – Even though it comes in handy, when we hit bad roads, like you are doing 70 or 80 kmph, and you are facing a bad road, like small pot holes on highway, or taking a not smooth road, then bag moves a bit to front. I mean towards you. That’s because it sits on a pillion seat and it’s smooth surface. It can’t grip on it. So when I stop for a break, I need to pull it back a little. This can be avoided if you have that clips mounted under your pillion seat and clip it on. This can be included in the package.
    – The mounting ropes are on my rear panels. Which is soft,. when we ride, the dirts getin between the rope and paint surface which in longer period will leave marks. However, I sticked transparent cello tape on my triumph rear panels. Yeah looks cheap a bit, but does the job. No scratches.

Totally loved it. Great product which has variable storage and looks cool. At reasonable cost. Thank you Viatarra for the design and quality finish and for the right price.

Bought this from Furst Gear, Bangalore last year as I wasnt sure if it would fit well on the rear seat of my RR310 . Tried it out on in person and was impressed with the simple but effective fastening mechanism. As an additional fastener, bought a Akro 5″ ratchet strap which I looped through the forward sleeve on the Raptor. Fits like a glove now; absolutely no sliding / slipping even at speeds over 130 kmph. Top notch materials used, built quality and attention to detail. Clearly, designed by riders who know their stuff.

Suggestion – It’d be great if ViaTerra designers can explore inter-changeability as a concept (something like the Nelson-Rigg tankbag & tailbag combo); that’ll be awesome!

BTW, I guess I was one of the earliest customers of the HoleShot glove; shared some feedback. I also own some other great products Falcon saddlebags, Toolroll, Essentials Jacket bag, and now this Raptor. So far so good, happy to return again. Best wishes.
