Care Instructions

Here are some easy ways to clean and take care of your equipment. If you want to learn more, feel free to send us an email at info@viaterragear.com

Cleaning:

Please use a soft cloth soaked in mild detergent to gently wipe the bag clean. Hang dry out of direct sunlight only. Dry-cleaning or machine washing or using a clothes dryers or hand/dhobi washing or soaking will void the warranty as this will damage the special coatings that the fabric has. It will also result in your bag losing its “water-proof” coating.

Storage:

When you are storing the bag, please do not fold, or roll or otherwise stuff the item into a smaller space/container as this will damage the item and void the warranty. Do not alter the bag or get it repaired at an unauthorized repair centre as this will void the warranty.

    :

Rapide range of saddle bags are an ideal companion for a biker for its quality, compactness and stylish looks. I also would like to add that the folks at Via Terra are extremely customer friendly and are encouraging a lot of adventurers to hit the road by sponsoring their gear. Kudos to them!

    :

Good material quality and stitching. I’ve had a fall with it, which the material shrugged off quite easily without tearing.

However, the rain cover does not cover the inside of the bags, which are exposed to water splashes from the rear wheel. There may be a tendency for the lower part of the bag to get rubbed on the wheel, which I experienced (but only once) when i loaded up the bags.

Good quality, easy to use. I would gladly recommended it for anyone. I wish there was a waterproof version!

These saddlebags are bang for the buck! When I received the package, I was a bit sceptical about the volume of the bags. Would they be able to carry enough luggage? 2 or 3 week rides warrant multiple changes of clothing and various miscellaneous items.

These saddles really surprised me. They were able to soak in multiple shirts, jeans, books, chain lube, chain clean, shampoo, soap, shaving kit – and all this in one bag. The other was still empty! Even fully loaded they don’t jut out of the sides of the bike and make minimal difference to handling.

Mounting is easy and smooth as butter. Two D-ring straps on the side and one buckle at the back. Becomes second nature after a while.

At one point during my maiden ride with the bags I had a low speed fall off road. We’re talking gravel and rocks here. The left saddlebag took the impact and to my complete surprise had nothing but a couple of shallow scratches. That’s it! Speaks volumes about the material being employed.

“Tough, good-looking and spacious” is indeed accurate. The included rain covers are an added advantage. Would recommend!

Got these saddle bags a week ago, along with the tank bag (review for tank bag can be found under the reviews section for that product).

Firstly, the product was delivered to me within a day of the order (I chose expedited shipping). Secondly, it was good to see one of the guys from Viaterra send me an email asking if I had received the bags in good order. Customer service and follow up has impressed me. This is my first time buying from Viaterra.

About the saddle bags, I use them on the Yamaha R3. Firstly, a stay is needed to keep the bags in place and to prevent them from swaying and touching the rear tyre. This is very important.

Regarding the bags themselves, they feel very good and very rugged. The ruggedness was further confirmed when I trial ran them with full load on a 600km roadtrip in rain, cold and some nasty off roading.

    Pros:

The capacity of the tank bags is quite good (~38 liters) should suffice you for a good 15 days on the road if you know how to pack effectively. The way the bags are designed make it good for upswept exhaust bikes. The zero displacement system is effective in that the bags never moved regardless of all the bumps and off roads that I put them thru. A stay is necessary however.

The reflective tapes are visible well.

The additional water bottle holders at the front are spacious enough to keep 2l bottles if necessary. These are very spacious and helpful.

The side compartments are big enough to keep smaller items such as rain covers, towels, slippers etc.

The rain covers themselves are quite good and provide a ample amount of waterproofing. They do not cover the bags on the inner side.

    Cons:

The straps for the zero displacement system feel strong enough, but the Velcro layer on them is simply not long enough. For bikes were the rear seat tapers off, the amount of Velcro is hardly sufficient to keep them secured. I had to get additional Velcro stitched to get the bags to mount properly on the bike. A longer Velcro attachment is necessary. It will be good if Viaterra addresses them in future products.

The straps that are used for securing the bags to the foot peg mounts could have been a little longer.

The strap that secures the bags at the rear could have been a little longer to accommodate different bikes.

The bottom of the bags is not waterproof. I’ve noticed that the rain covers do not completely cover the bottom, and hence, the bottom tends to get damp. This issue can be solved by keeping your luggage in plastic bags. They might feel damp, but will not be wet.

One thing that is missing are straps on top of the bags themselves to hold additional equipment such as tripods. Some sort of an elastic band/ straps would’ve been helpful for holding additional equipment. A sort of a X – loop system can help to keep such things in place and could be thought of in future designs.

A thing to consider is to load the bag a little heavier on the left side so the right bag does not weigh down too much to be near to the exhaust. Some sort of heat proof material at the base would also be a good addition.
