Purposeful Design

The Boreal has been designed to be the best midlayer in terms of performance. The 3 layer fabric used makes it a versatile piece of equipment that will find a place in your gear list for any ride

Cold Protection

The brushed fleece used as the inner layer helps trap the body heat, providing warmth and comfort when the sun is low over the horizon. This also allows the Boreal to be your go-to destination jacket during your rides.

Rain Protection

The Durable Water Resistant (DWR) coating on the outer fabric enables the Boreal to keep you dry in slight drizzles.

We recommend that you use one of our dedicated rain layers for anything more than a slight drizzle.

Snug Cuff

The cuff on the Boreal is cut snug to seal out the cold while the 4 way stretch fabric used makes it secure and comfortable to use.

Full Zip Jacket

The full length main zipper on the Boreal makes it easy to wear or take off without the need to take the helmet off.

Stand-up Collar

The Boreal has a stand-up collar for better protection from wind blast encountered during rides.

Slider garage

The slider garage on the Boreal enhances the comfort factor by preventing the zipper slider from rubbing against your neck.

Storage

The Boreal has 3 zippered pockets - a Napoleon pocket for the mobile, and 2 front pockets that can be used as hand warmers or to store smaller items

Low Profile Stitching

The Boreal uses low profile stitching to reduce bulk for more comfortable use as a mid layer

Reflective

Reflectives on the front, back and sleeves for added visibility in low light conditions

Specification

Material

Built with a triple-layer softshell fabric and a brushed fleece inner lining, the Boreal offers exceptional warmth without excess bulk. The exterior resists wind and light rain, while the soft inner layer traps heat effectively. High-stretch panels at the sides and underarms improve mobility and layering comfort during long hours on the road.

Warmth and Insulation

The Boreal is designed for winter rides and high-altitude terrain. Its thermal fleece core provides consistent insulation across the torso and arms, helping retain body heat without overheating. Elasticated cuffs and a contoured collar seal out cold air, keeping you warm during early-morning starts or wind-chilled descents.

Comfort & Fit

The pre-curved FocusFit silhouette ensures a body-hugging fit that works seamlessly under an outer shell. Articulated sleeves and stretch panels at high-movement zones allow unrestricted motion, while the drop-tail design keeps your lower back covered when leaned forward in a riding position. Adjustable hem toggles give you control over fit and retention.

Care and storage
  1. Wipe clean with a damp cloth and lukewarm water - do not use hot water.
  2. Avoid contact with solvents, fuel, fabric softeners, or alcohol-based cleaning agents.
  3. Always dry on a hanger in a ventilated area, away from direct sunlight or heat sources.
  4. Ensure the midlayer is completely dry before storing to prevent mildew or fabric damage.
  5. Clean and lubricate zippers regularly using vaseline or candle wax.
Things to remember
  1. The Boreal is designed as a snug midlayer - meant to sit close to the body for optimal insulation and easy layering under an outer jacket. It shouldn’t feel bulky or loose.
  2. Wear it on a few rides to let the fabric adapt to your posture. Use the hem toggles and zipper fully closed for best heat retention.
  3. Store it flat or hang it in a ventilated space.
  4. Avoid compressing for long periods to maintain the loft and performance of the thermal fleece lining.

Best Midlayer jacket from Indian brands

I was looking for a mid-layer jacket after my first cold weather multi-day tour, the other options in market were primarily fleece or bomber style however when I came across Viaterra Boreal jacket it instantly caught my attention due to it's different styling and features. Since purchasing it I have used the jacket on a number of multi-day tours and it has performed flawlessly so far, still lookiing like new after wash. The jacket is multi-layer yet sleek enough to fit comfortably as a mid-layer under different riding jackets. The looks are stylish enough with not so flashy branding that I have been using it as a standalone jacket as well when I don't expect very heavy cold. There is some degree of water repulsion so a light drizzle is not of bother. The jacket was liked so much that my pillion has also bought same model for her. The coldest weather I have used this jacket as mid layer so far was in Dec 2024 where I had to ride for 5-6 hours in damp and soggy conditions with temperature around 3 degrees having a mesh jacket and Boreal midlayer. Though not entirely cold proof but Boreal did held up well in that case also.

One minor observation with the fit but it could be due to my taller build that the jacket appears a little bit short in length however it doesn't create any problem whatsoever functionally.
